Rohan’s Artist Statement

I have loved art ever since I was very young. Sketching and coloring came easily to me, so I started going to an art studio to refine my talents. I started off using crayons and colored pencils. When I got older, I learned sketching in detail - adding muscles and shadows that weren’t found in my earlier work. I incorporated my knowledge of sketching into charcoal, and in my outline for painting. I started off with acrylic painting, learning how to mix colors, where to apply shadows and highlights, and how to blur the background to make the object clearer. However, when I was introduced to oil painting, I knew this was the medium for me. Though many people believe there isn’t a difference between acrylic and oil, oil painting allows blending to be much easier, and gives the picture a flowing, more realistic look. Oil paintings take up the majority of my collection. I like to paint animals - I have dabbled in still life paintings (inanimate objects), but organic art is my kind of art.
